The Mosaic programme is a flexible and person-centred way of focusing on your personal skills and confidence and exploring the next steps in your career.
We offer a range of opportunities within the University that contribute to your personal and professional development. You may have colleagues who have completed the Mosaic programme in the past, and this year we have broadened and extended the programme to encompass a wider range of workshops and activities. Participating in the Mosaic programme will help you plan and navigate your development in a more focussed way.
You will undertake a minimum of 4 workshops across the year, and commit to other self-directed elements such as reading, watching videos, undertaking online programmes etc. You will also have the opportunity of a 1-1 coaching session with an accredited coach, and have access to a range of online resources. In addition you will produce a short reflective piece at the end to share your learning journey with us.
You can join the programme at any time in the year and design your own pathway, although you will need to attend the Creating your Mosaic workshop early on in your journey. There is no fixed timeframe for completion of all the elements, however we anticipate most people will benefit from completing within 6-9 months.
Once you have completed your Mosaic journey you will be invited to a celebration event at the end of the academic year, at which you will receive a certificate of completion.
Who is the course for?
Everyone! We have found that those who are looking to develop their confidence at work, are at a crossroads in their career, are wanting to have a deeper insight into themselves, or are simply wanting to pause and reflect have found most benefit.
Learning outcomes
As it is such a personal programme it is difficult to identify clear outcomes that will apply to everyone taking part. However we would anticipate that by the end of the programme, participants would have:
- A deeper insight into their motivations and ways of working
- A developed confidence in their own strengths and skills
- A clear view of continuous development needs
- An improved sense of control over their choices and career direction
- Developed communication skills
How it works in detail
Core elements:
- Attend the Creating your Mosaic workshop, which will help you take the first step in your self-awareness and development journey, and support you with identifying your development plan through the programme.
- Commit to participating in any of this range of workshops and events (we would recommend a minimum of two but take as many as you feel appropriate):
Appraisees – Getting the Most from your Appraisal
Art of Presenting
Managing Your Career
Communicating with Impact
Confident Facilitation Skills
Working Inclusively in Changing Times
Influence Workout (if you have a management or leadership role)
Manager as Coach (if you have a management or leadership role)
Mindfulness Meditation
Neurodiversity in the workplace – Welcome to My World
Personal Resilience – Exploring my Resourcefulness for the Future
Pre-Retirement/Mid-Career Financial Planning
How to be a Productivity Ninja/ The Way of the Productivity Ninja
Resilient Leadership Through Change (if you have a management or leadership role)
Solutions Focussed Conversations
Understanding Unconscious Bias
Wellbeing Week events
Who am I as Manager (if you have a management or leadership role)
- Identify and complete other relevant self-directed learning activities (you will find a host of suggestions on our Personal Development Blackboard, but you can undertake any others of your own choosing that are relevant to your development)
- Produce a reflective piece to demonstrate your learning journey. This could be in the form of, for example, a written reflective piece, a blog or series of blogs, a learning journal, a video reflection, a presentation – discuss your ideas with us.
- Attend the Completing Your Mosaic workshop to consolidate your learning and identify what is next for you.
Optional extras:
- Access to a 1-1 coaching session with an accredited coach. You can decide to take advantage of this at any stage on your mosaic journey (subject to coach availability) – suitable points might be shortly after a workshop so you can discuss applying your learning, or perhaps towards the end of the programme as a way of helping you make sense of your next steps.
- Blackboard site dedicated to the Mosaic programme which contains a wide range of resources, further ideas and guidance.
When you have completed:
The core benefit from undertaking the Mosaic programme is not to receive accreditation, but for the benefit of the learning and reflection itself. However, we would like to recognise your development journey, so we will invite all of those who have completed the programme to a celebration event towards the end of the academic year. This will be an opportunity for you to network with other Mosaic participants and share your experiences; we will also present you with a certificate of completion.
You will then join the Mosaic alumni group to continue your learning journey.

Are you able to provide the link to the Blackboard page? I don’t seem to be able to see the course catalogue.
Hi Nina, unfortunately the blackboard page isn’t live yet, I should have made that clearer in the blog, apologies. This is a new initiative for us and so we are developing it as we go!
