Canterbury Tale

Canterbury Tale was produced by John Clague (RIBA) for the Canterbury Rotary Club in 1970 to help raise funds to repair one of the bays in the Cathedral Cloister.
These excerpts show the city as it was in 1970. The original film had a full sound track consisting of voice over and music (but this has been removed for music copyright reasons).

John set up Clague Architects in Canterbury in the 1930s. He was a keen amateur filmmaker and produced an annual newsreel of Herne Bay between 1935 and 1970.

  1. I knew Canterbury had changed over the years but it’s not until you see footage like this that you! realise just how radically its changed!
