University life can be busy, and sometimes the most productive thing you can do is step away from your desk. Whether you need a quiet moment, somewhere to eat your lunch, a comfortable place to read, to wait for your lecture or transport home, or support during stressful times of the year. The library has a range of spaces to help you recharge.
Here’s a guide to some of the places you might not know about within your library…
Read and Relax

The Read and Relax collection is a new collection inspired by 2026 being The National Year of Reading. It is a collection of books on the ground floor of the library, that are for the purpose of reading for pleasure. It contains an array of books, from fiction, to non-fiction cookbooks and graphic novels. All of the books within this section are classed as a 4-week loan so you can have enough time to enjoy it!

StressLess
StressLess is an initiative designed for students and staff alike to have the opportunity to relax, unwind, and meet new people. the events are primarily held in the atrium on the second floor of Augustine House, with occasional events in the Student Union on the North Holmes Road Campus. The events are held once a month changing between Tuesdays and Thursdays and are held for the entire afternoon. Meaning if you can only come for a few minutes or are able to be there for the entire time you will have the chance to participate in whatever activity you feel comfortable with.

Here you can see an example of what takes place. From games, crafts, decorating a biscuit, or simply chatting and meeting new people! Come and see for yourself!
All of the StressLess events have a theme, which coincides with what is occurring at that time within the year, varying from exam support, awareness campaigns, to celebrations of holidays and festivals.

Quiet and Private Spaces
Not every library space is designed for studying.
The library includes dedicated private spaces for prayer, reflection, and breastfeeding. Ensuring students, staff, and visitors have access to facilities that support their needs while studying at the library.
Faith Space
Whether you’re observing daily prayers or looking for a quiet place to reflect, the Faith Space offers a dedicated environment to support your needs. The room is open to people of all faiths and beliefs, providing a respectful space for prayer and contemplation.
It is located on the ground floor of Augustine House, to the right of Augustine Hall in room AHg.28a.
Baby Feeding and Changing Room
The library’s Baby Feeding and Changing Room is available for parents and carers who need a private space. It offers a comfortable setting away from the main library spaces, supporting those balancing family life with study or work.
It is located on the ground floor of Augustine House, behind the returns room in room AHg.05.

Sensory Room
The Sensory Room is a space for students to come and reset between studying or social sessions. The space has been designed with neurodiverse people in mind with adjustable lighting, comfortable seating, and a range of ways to control your sensory experience.
The Sensory Room can be found on the ground floor behind the book return room in room AHg.03a. If you need help finding it, please go to the Library Point to ask a member of staff who can help you.

Everyday Amenities
There are also everyday amenities for your needs within the library, from if you need to heat up your lunch, grab a coffee, or fill up your water bottle.
