Improvements to the Scanning Service

The Copyright Licensing Agency HE Licence specifies the terms that permit the scanning of extracts from printed books, journals and magazines for distribution to students via Blackboard. Under the terms of the licence all scanning of such content at the University must be carried out and logged by designated staff in Library and Learning Resources.

We are making some improvements to the scanning service that will streamline the process and make it easier for you to request new content and manage links in Blackboard.

The new process makes use of the Digital Content Store from the CLA. Some benefits of the new system include:

  • No repeat requests required each academic year – use the same link to scans in perpetuity
  • Request new scans via an online form  – no more spreadsheets and email attachments
  • Usage statistics – metrics available for views, downloads and viewing time per course or scanned item

Members of staff supplied with scans in the 2017/18 academic year should have already received an email with details of their scanned content, please contact us if this is not the case.

Please request any new scans via the online formIn order to use the form we need to input your name and email address on the CLA system, please email library.scanning.service@canterbury.ac.uk to arrange access before making your first request.

Any scanning requests made using the old version of the form will not be accepted from January 2019.

Further information regarding the scanning service is available on StaffNET.
