Politics and International Relations at Canterbury Christ Church University in the top 30 of the Guardian University Guide

Canterbury

This year Politics and International Relations at Canterbury Christ Church University celebrated its tenth anniversary. This is ten years of achievement by our students – students who have gone on to have a remarkable impact in the world beyond university; ten years of hard work by the academic team; ten years of high quality research informing policy and wider society.

This week, our decade of achievement was acknowledged by the fact that we entered the top 30 in the Guardian University League Table. This places us above many Russell Group Politics departments. We may be a relatively new programme, but these results show that we are programme of exceptional high quality.

The Guardian University Guide is among the most respected table rankings in the United Kingdom and the one that most directly focuses on the quality of teaching and student experience. Among the criteria in which the programme excelled was the level of student satisfaction.

The Guardian League Table is also particularly important because it measures the ‘value added’ in the process of a student’s experience resulting in their degree achievement. As such it acknowledges how high quality teaching and student engagement combine to produce great results. In this measure, Politics at Canterbury Christ Church University achieved joint first with the University of Ulster.

Dr David Bates, Director of Politics and International Relations said:

“We are delighted by the Guardian League Table results. Out of all the UK tables, this perhaps best reflects the quality of the student offer. What better way to celebrate 10 years of Politics an International Relations at Canterbury Christ Church than by becoming a top 30 Politics programme. This result is a testament to the hard work of our staff and students.”
