Library arrangements on Her Majesty The Queen’s Funeral on 19 September


Following the sad news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen, the State Funeral has now been confirmed for Monday 19 September.

The 19 September will be a national public holiday, with most teaching, activities and  services unavailable across Canterbury, Medway and Tunbridge Wells campuses. To find out more about the campus arrangements please read the student news.

We have a few library arrangements we wish to share for the day.

Extension to library items due 19 September

All library items due on the 19 September will have their borrowing period extended to Tuesday 20 September. There will be no need to take a trip to the library to return items on the day of the funeral.

Access to our libraries

Opening hours for our libraries remain the same across the weekend 17-18 September.

Our arrangements for 19 September are as follows:

Augustine House will be open from 7.30am -1.00am. The Library point and IT hub will both be closed. There will be reduced i-zone support available from 9am-2pm. Atrium Cafe will be open from 8am-2pm.

Salomons Institute Library will be closed.

Drill Hall Library Medway will be open 9:00 -17:00 for the staff and students of the Universities at Medway and Sconul access members only. There will be no access to our other external access members on that day. Visit the Drill Hall library web page for further information.


We appreciate that this sad event will affect our community in different ways, so please remember that there is a range of emotional wellbeing support available for our studentsChooseday Chill will take place on Tuesday 20 September at Augustine House from 5-7pm and is an opportunity for students to chat with the Student Wellbeing teams over free tea and toast.
