Embedding digital capabilities into the curriculum is one of the most effective ways to develop students’ digital capabilities.It will be successful if it enhances subject specific teaching and learning outcomes and serves an overall pedagogic goal. Acquiring digital capabilities should not be perceived as a learning outcome by itself but as a means to an end.

The Digital Capabilities Working Group will develop clear guidelines on how digital capabilities could be developed within the curriculum. It started to do this by devising a “Digital Capabilities Curriumlum Review Workshop” and a “Digital Capabilities Curriumlum Review Tool”. Both are targeted at programme directors and module leaders and should help them to identify

• the digital capabilities students are expected to have before they start the programme
• the digital capabilities students should develop in the programme
• the capabilities that are already covered
• the gaps that need to be addressed.
