The Student Green Office has been busy all term promoting sustainability across the University through events and campaigns, publications, our active social media pages, and of course this blog.
But who are we?
The SGO is a team of four enthusiastic students, with a wide range of degree subjects, interests, and skills.
Claire Nicholson, a third year Animal Science student, has been in the SGO for the longest, having taken up the role of Events Coordinator in her first year. Since then she has been involved with the planning and running of many of the Sustainability events on campus, and has written two recipe books promoting sustainable cooking and living. Claire is involved with The Gastro Hub, a student-led enterprise reducing food waste through using surplus food, and engaging more people in cooking. She is passionate about wildlife, photography, and sports.
Emily Webb is in her final year of university, studying American Studies and International Relations, and has just returned from a year abroad. Before joining the SGO, Emily was heavily involved with the National Citizen Service and with the Student Union, and focuses her efforts in her role as SGO Events Officer on student poverty, and on promoting a culture of re-use in the wake of the single-use plastics crisis.
Billie Redwood is in her second year, studying Business with Psychology. She has been a part of the SGO for a year, and her role involves both events coordination and social media. She keeps the Sustainability Facebook and Twitter pages full of everything you need to know about our events and partnerships, as well as relevant local and global news and stories. Billie has recently produced a Sustainable Meal Prep Guide, helping students to reduce food waste and save money by preparing meals ahead of time. These free guides, as well as individual recipe cards, can be picked up from our office in Fg11, or at any of our events. Outside of study, Billie loves art, fashion, health, her dogs, and travel.
I’m Hannah Whitehouse, and I’m in my second year studying Education Studies and Theology. I joined the Student Green Office this term, with the role of Communications Officer. As well as writing for the Sustainability blog, I help Billie with the running of our social media pages. Before coming to university, I worked in childcare, and wrote for a national charity. I am very active in the music at Christ Church, and also love reading, healthy eating, socialising, and swimming.
We all love working in the Student Green Office, and are excited for what the New Year will bring. Keep an eye on this blog and our social media pages for upcoming events, and from all of us – have a wonderful Christmas!
