Yes, the hops have started to sprout, pushing up fresh green shoots in search of something to climb up!

Seizing the opportunity presented by an increasingly warm and sunny day, we started to set up the poles and strings that are needed for a good crop of hops.  This is the third year of hop growing at CCCU, but these plants have a long history on the main campus site, being grown by the monks of St Augustine’s Abbey for hundreds of years.

The beer that was made using last year’s hops is called St Gregory’s, and is available in the Food Court on the main campus.

The hops are planted between Fleming and Moore, so please wander past and check out their progress.  Alternatively, keep a watch on this blog, as we will be posting frequent updates – they grow very fast once established!
