A peaceful, edible wildlife garden using organic and permaculture methods
Work has now begun on restoring the Johnson Garden, which has been a little neglected recently.
The aim is to transform it into a quiet, relaxing location where students and staff can refresh mind, body and soul.
There are weekly sessions on Thursdays between 12noon and 2pm, hosted by permaculture expert Jo Barker, where different activities take place – along with a bit of hard graft, to get the work done!
There have now been four sessions, and progress is being made on clearing debris and dead plants, preparing the area for spring.
Hollyhock (centre) rescued from the Daphne Oram construction site and replanted near another, next to the pond.
Path clearance in progress.
Dead plants and debris cleared from the pond, making room for the bulrush shoots that are already appearing. We are looking forward to seeing what wildlife appears here. A newt has already been spotted!
But there is still plenty to do, though! Stinging nettles are starting to sprout in unwelcome places, and tackling those will come soon – volunteers welcome!
