Canterbury Christ Church University shortlisted for two Green Gown Awards

The University has been shortlisted for two prestigious Green Gown Awards.

Zulfi Ali has been shortlisted for a Sustainability Champion award in the Staff category for his work on Project 93. During the last three years, through this Futures Initiative-supported project, Zulfi has catalysed a change across the University that has resulted in significant growth in the range and depth of participation in sustainability through curriculum inclusion and integration. Awareness of environmental and social justice issues is also much higher and sustainability-related issues are starting to get embedded in the culture of the University.

The Student Green Office, operated through the Sustainability Team, has been shortlisted for a Student Engagement award for its work to develop peer-to-peer engagement over the past six years. Working in partnership with staff teams, the Students’ Union and student societies, the Student Green Office has been supporting sustainability goals and initiating projects from grassroots action to top-level             sustainability governance, and is now driving engagement with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The heart of the initiative is to empower students to engage others in the environmental, social and economic sustainability issues that they most care about.
