The Art of Sport

Christ Church Sport & Active Health have worked with the incredible and very talented photographer Lucy Mohr, along with the University’s Arts & Culture team and the team at Augustine House, to bring a new exhibition to the Atrium Café space. The Art of Sport.

The exhibition is dedicated to the extraordinary Canterbury Christ Church University Sport Scholars. An extremely talented group of students who have the ability to achieve and make a significant contribution to sport, both within the Univeristy and externally in their chosen sport.

The exhibition is also inspired by our student athletes and their connection to Canterbury as a city and its surrounding areas – through the architecture and the variety of landscapes in which they train and compete. With this concept as a working breif, Photographer Lucy Mohr worked carfeully with each of our sportspeople to produce a tableau, creating a narrative with the city and rural spaces.

The Sport Scholarship programme aims to provide the best possible support to our students, both as athletes and academics. We support Scholars across a wide range of sports, and from a variety of academic programmes. Our Scholars benefit from high quality mentoring, complimentary access to our fitness facilities, massage therapy and sport science support from SportsLab. All this in addition to financial support in the form of a bursary.

The first class experience we provide means that we have been extremely successful in supporting Scholars through their University studies whilst maintaining a focus on their sporting excellence. This was shown when the University became recognised by Sport England’s Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) as a Dual Career Accredited Site, which acknowledges an enhanced level level of academic flexibility allowing talented athletes to balance their studies alongside a sporting schedule.
