Moving More on our way to the zoo

As you may be aware, CCCU’s Sustainability are hosting a Endangered Animals Treasure Hunt, on the 1st-7th May 2017. If you take part you could win tickets to Howlettes and also £100 towards your society!

So, in anticipation I took a trip to Howletts myself to see what all the fuss was about. But, in order to move more, and make our day active, my partner and I took the bus and walked from Canterbury Town Center.

In total, we went to 4 animal talks and learnt about the conservation work being done with Gorilla’s, Elephant’s, Rhino’s, Tigers and finally Wild Hogs (these arn’t critically endangered but they pretty cute). We walked around the park twice, in fairly sunny but windy weather, and then back to the bus station. Our bus journey only cost £9 for a return for two of us, and took aprox 9 minutes.

So our knowledge of endangered animals doubled, but how active were we? An app on my phone tells me we walked over 19,000 steps! To complete our walking challenge, you need to complete 10,000 steps a day so we are well on our way.

To complete the walking challenge, just send us a quick email at movemore@canterbury.ac.uk and we’ll reply with a sheet to keep track of your steps each day. Complete 50,000 steps in a week and you’ll win a christ church sport t-shirt! Who wouldn’t want a free tee, you can use it for the gym or even more walking activites.

Here’s a certifiate I’ve just sent out, you can do it too!
