Research support: What the library offers

The Library and Learning Resources Learning Skills Team offers high-quality guidance and support to staff and students on developing academic and information skills, literacies and digital capabilities. We also provide enhanced support for staff (including professional services staff) and student researchers, lead by the Research Lead Librarian and the Research Support Micro-team.

Together we support you in improving your research skills and gaining experience and confidence as a researcher. At the same time, we can help you meet some of the standards of the Researcher Development (Vitae) Framework.

The Learning Skills Team can help you with:

  • Referencing and advanced referencing skills and reference management
  • Literature searching at all levels
  • Writing your literature review
  • Writing at postgraduate level
  • Presentation skills
  • Digital capabilities for researchers

You can book a one to one appointment with your Learning Developer or Librarian, or you may wish to talk to your supervisor or tutor about inviting them to deliver a group session. You can also find many self-guided modules on the Learning Skills Hub, covering everything from referencing to time management and presentation skills. You may find the hub section on ‘Modules for Postgrads and Researchers’ particularly useful.

In addition, our specialised research support staff provide an enhanced service, supporting you with:

  • Where to publish your research
  • Research data management
  • Understanding research metrics

We have dedicated webpages for researchers, which we (of course) encourage you to visit! If you can’t find the information you need there, please contact the library research support staff via email. Alternatively, for more general academic skills support you can contact the wider Learning Skills Team.
