Dr Amanda Carr
I am a developmental psychologist and work with infants and pre-schoolers and their parents investigating the effects of early technology use on social and cognitive development; parent-child interaction and learning; and school achievement and motivation.
My main research interest is in the development and application of social cognition, particularly theory-of-mind understanding.I also have an interest in other aspects of development, including children’s reading development and the effect of consumer culture and media exposure on children’s well-being.
Dr. Julia Ulber
I am a developmental psychologist working mainly with infants and pre-schoolers investigating early social behaviour. I am particularly interested in early helping and sharing behaviour as well as peer collaboration.
I am an applied psychologist with an interest in learning disabilities and autism spectrum condition.

a Fernandez
I am a cognitive psychologist and am interested in cognitive development and its interaction with emotion. In particular, I am interested in how children develop attentional biases to threatening stimuli.
I am an Investigative Psychologist with a particular interest in the learning and development of offenders with special needs. I am also interested in local schemes for disabled children and their families. Most recently, I have been interested in exploring the use of therapy dogs in promoting learning and social development in children.
I am a senior research fellow working on an EPSRC funded project ‘Playing out with the internet of things’ which explores the use of technology in encouraging children to play outside, and the psychological development this supports.
PhD students
Sharon Good
I am a PhD student in psychology under the supervision of Dr Lance Slade. My research focuses on the role of mind-mindedness, which refers to parents’ ability or willingness to represent their children’s likely thoughts and feelings when they are interacting or describing them.
Kirstin Holsey
I am a PhD student under the supervision of Dr Amanda Carr. I am interested in understanding metacognition in young adults and adolescents. Particularly I am interested in the relationship to understanding social behaviour and the effects of this on learning.
Rebecca Croll
I am a PhD student working on improving theory-of-mind skills within nursery and preschool settings.
