There are volunteering opportunities and free online workshops – don’t miss out!
The Careers & Enterprise Hub
We have workshops this week, but we have them going throughout the year, so if you can’t join this week, there will be plenty of other opportunities!
Professionalism in the Online Workplace & Virtual Branding – Wednesday 27th January, 1-2pm
This session is facilitated by Gist. They say: We have to address the elephant in the room! 2020 was a dynamic year for all of us, the biggest plot twist any of us have ever been through. We were forced to grow, reflect and move our lives ONLINE! It’s a change for all of us and this session facilitated by Gist aims to help you put your best self forward even in a virtual world.
Microsoft Specialist Workshops – (a range of dates and times)
These are run in partnership with our IT training team, and are available in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. The workshops are great training to understand the software better, but also prepares you to take an exam if you choose to, that you can then put on your CV. If you pass 3 of the exams, you can call yourself a Microsoft Specialist Associate!
We’re now also giving you the chance to be an EXPERT. Once you’ve completed 3 exams above, and you’re a Specialist Associate, you’re welcome to book on to our two new Expert sessions – Word and Excel, and take your knowledge and skills to the next level!
Don’t forget, you can also work on the Careers & Enterprise Online Award, book a 1-1 Careers Advice appointment, get feedback on your CV or try a mock Interview!
Have you considered Volunteering?
Volunteering is a great way to get work experience, try something new, support and help others, and use your time productively.
You can use your existing skills or develop new ones, focus on employability or share your passion.
The good news is that volunteering can be virtual, Covid secure and meaningful.
This Personal Development Week, while you focus on opportunities for your own development, there are two volunteer opportunities that you can engage with you could.
- join a website focus group to help Kent Wildlife Trust
- become a Covid 19 community champion and explore the ways your influence amongst your different communities can help us stop the spread of Covid.
Or there are also loads of different volunteer opportunities available on our website
Get that feel good factor by volunteering your time to support others, engage with your local community or causes you are passionate about. Your actions are important, your opinions matter, and your time is valuable.
So, if you volunteer already or want to try something new, attend a workshop, register on the website, record your volunteering hours and working towards a volunteering certificate, and create a positive start to the new year.
Look out for more volunteering activities coming in Student Volunteering Week starting 8th February. If you have any queries, you can contact me directly at volunteering@canterbury.ac.uk.
