Profile head shot of Luke Ramsay

Luke completed his BA (Hons) Creative Music Production & Technology in 2024 and has started his career in the industry. Read how he is getting on and his advice to students interested in following a similar career path.

Tell us about what you are doing now.  How did your course help you get your role and how did it prepare you?

I produce audio for radio and digital audio (Spotify, DAX, YouTube) advertisements.

My favourite thing about my work is that every job is different, there’s always neat little learning moments and nothing is ever “copy and paste” from previous work.

My proudest achievement in my career so far has been creating audio adverts and editing dialogue for some of my favourite film releases this year.

My time at CCCU and the course allowed me to deep dive into hi fidelity audio production and editing. I used the studios religiously to get as much experience as possible so that I now can be taken to any studio and work out how everything works in a very short space of time.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering your course (now known as BA Music Production)?

Studying Music Production at university wasn’t just about landing a job straight after graduating – it was about building the skills, creativity, and industry understanding that helped me stand above the rest. You’ll gain hands-on experience with professional tools and facilities, collaborate with like-minded students, and learn how to bring your ideas to life. Along the way, I’ve developed a portfolio, made valuable connections, and discovered where my passion fits in the music and audio world. It’s a launchpad — giving you everything you need to create opportunities and shape your future in the industry.

The best piece of career advice I have ever been given is: ‘Throw yourself into everything and anything you can that will grow your knowledge or experience.’

In what ways did you change and develop throughout your course?

CCCU helped me develop my productions, whether that be from composition to engineering, mixing and editing, all are vital to my current career path.

What was the most challenging part of your course? How did you tackle this?

As a young parent I was also tackling the balance between University and my duties at home, however the tutors were very hospitable and helped me navigate around both.

Ensuring that balance is a continuous struggle and my goal for the next five years is to continue working with big brands and maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
