James Flanagan Liberal Democrat general election candidate for Canterbury and Whitstable gave a lecture with a question and answer session in the second of our ‘Meet the Candidates’ sessions for the 2015 election on Friday 23rd of January.
There was plentiful attendance from members of the local community who pressed James strongly on his main priorities for the constituency; his opinion on a range of local issues; and his ability to remain independent and represent Canterbury and Whitstable in Westminster. This lively exchange of views was a perfect example of democracy in action with citizens – both ordinary voters and politics students – interacting with James. All came away with a much clearer idea of the candidate and what he would do if elected in May.
Future events in the ‘Meet the Candidates’ series are planned for the coming weeks, building up to a hustings between all the candidates to be held on campus in late April. All are welcome to these events, details of which will be published on the blog.
