BoB Embedding

You can embed recordings directly into your module board BUT if you or your students are not already logged in to BoB, you will need to do this before you can watch the embedded video.

If you are not logged in, you will see a message “Please sign into BoB and refresh this page”.  Clicking on this opens a new browser tab prompting you to login to BoB.  After signing in, you need to return to Blackboard and REFRESH the page in order to watch the embedded video.

How to Embed a recording in your Module board

Copy the Embed text from BoB.  Within the module board area where you wish the embedded recording to appear;

  • select Build Content and from the drop-down list select Item.
  • Give the content item a Name

Ensure your text box is displaying all 3 formatting toolbars.  If it isn’t, simply click on the double chevron in the top right-hand corner to display all formatting toolbars:

  • Click on the HTML icon, to open the HTML window, and Paste the text copied earlier from BoB and click Update.

  • The embedded recording will appear in your module board like this:

The screen prompts the viewer to Sign In which when clicked opens a new tab and the viewer will need to sign in to BoB.  The viewer will then need to return to the open Blackboard tab, refresh the page and then the recording will appear and be able to be played.

BoB WAYfless Link

This is probably the better option when creating a link for use by CCCU staff or students as the link will send the user straight to the CCCU login page (if the individual isn’t already logged in), and then once logged in, take them directly to the recording.

How to add the WAYFless link in your Module board

Copy the WAYFless link from BoB.  Within the module board area where you wish the link to be added, select Build Content and from the drop-down list select weblink. Follow the same steps as if you were adding a regular weblink to your Blackboard site.

BoB Using the Share Button

When viewing a BoB recording, click on the Share button:

You will be presented with 3 options.

Link

Exactly the same as copying the URL from the browser address bar.  Use this method to add a Web Link in your module board, or add it to an email message or word document.  But be aware that when the URL is selected the students will first be prompted to sign into BoB, before being routed to the programme.

Within BoB, locate the programme and copy the URL from the browser address bar.

You can then either email the URL to your students or add it as a Web Link to your module Blackboard.

NB: When the URL is selected the students will first be prompted to sign into BoB, before being routed to the programme.

Ways BoB could be used

Listed below are ways BoB provides a way to integrate media within your learning and teaching.

  1. Promote active learning – Make available recently aired television or radio programmes to give your students access to the most up-to date developments in your subject area.
  2. Inspire and engage learners – Provide programmes or clips for students to watch and analyse in the classroom to facilitate engagement and further questioning about key issues and topics from your discipline.
  3. Implement a flipped classroom approach – Share a programme or clip for students to watch prior to a session, then discuss further online or in the classroom to enable independent or peer-assisted learning through creating collaborative learning groups.
  4. Create authentic learning opportunities – Use broadcast material to set the context for a topic that is relevant to your teaching to encourage deeper learning aimed at applying this learning to real world scenarios.
  5. Facilitate student-contributed content – Encourage your students to search the archive of broadcast media and share with fellow students to support and reinforce their learning.
