If you would like to share your recording with others, but wish to add a level of protection you can add a Password. Then simply share the link to the recording together with the password to those that you would like to share the recording with.
From your Manage Media screen, locate the recording you wish to Password Protect. Hovering over the thumbnail of the recording select the More option from the side menu:
From the More window that opens select Links from the left-hand menu and then select Security Settings:
Within the Security Settings window that displays, ensure that Public is selected together with a check in the Password or Authentication Restriction field. Select Simple Password and enter a password that you can then share with those individuals who you wish to have access.
For security, media can only be downloaded from ReCap by the owner. This means that students cannot automatically download copies of lectures, seminars, and other available learning materials. If a student has a need for media to be downloaded they are advised to contact their tutor or programme team to discuss.
“Where downloadable formats of recordings are made available, they are provided for personal use only. Distribution of such content to unauthorised parties is considered a breach of the University’s intellectual property rights and copyright ownership, and the University reserves the right to take appropriate action against any individual or group unlawfully distributing its content without express permission.”
Downloading Media
The owner can download a copy of their media item(s) by doing the following:
open ReCap and find the desired media item
mouse over and choose More…
choose Download
in the Download Content section, choose what version of the media you wish to download (the standard will be audio and video content which will combine both into one file)
Download for use ONLY in YuJa Mobile App
Staff can enable media to be downloaded by students for offline viewing only through the YuJa Mobile App, which allows students to watch the selected media without a stable internet connection (e.g. on their commute). Staff can do this in ReCap by:
selecting the media item they wish to make downloadable and choose More
select the Download section
change Allow Viewers to Download in Mobile Apps to Enable

All media created using ReCap is protected by the need to be logged in with a CCCU username and password by default. This is in place to avoid media being shared outside of the Institution without the owner’s permission. Should you, as the owner of a media item, need to share a recording with an external party (e.g. External Examiner, guest speaker who attended a session) you can disable this feature on an individual basis by doing the following:
open ReCap from any enabled Blackboard course and find the relevant media item in your Manage Media
hover/mouse over the media and click More…
in the media pop-up box, click on the Links tab on the left
click on Security Settings
click on the box for Password and Authentication Restriction to untick it
click Save to finalise
You can now provide a link to your external party that will not prompt them to log in to ReCap. The link can be obtained in the Links area by copying the contents of the Direct Link, the second box down. Provide this link to your external; the media will open for them in a new tab.
From your ReCap Manage Media area hover your mouse over the relevant thumbnail image and select the Publish option from the menu:
Selecting Publish, opens another smaller window where you can select where to publish the recording.
The list under All Channels displays the list of Blackboards (referred to as Channels) you have access to. Select the Blackboard site where you would like the recording to be published to, and then click on Select.
Note: The list displayed under All Channels may not display ALL the Blackboards you are an instructor on, this will be because either ReCap has not been added or accessed from that particular Blackboard. Simply open that Blackboard and select the ReCap link.
From your ReCap Manage Media area hover your mouse over the relevant thumbnail image and select the Share option from the menu:
This will open a separate smaller window where you can enter a colleague’s email address (internal only) to share the recording plus additional options in regards to access. This is useful for collaborative working.
This will open the Media Details Panel providing access to a range of media management options for individual media files
For a complete overview of each of the Media Details Panel options please see: Overview of Media Details, this link will take you to YuJa’s own support resources.
In each lecture theatre (except some of the larger ones e.g Og46, Pg09) the podium lectern will be equipped with the following:
Microphone – this will display a red light in the centre of the mesh to indicate that this is on.
A small light displaying different colours depending on its status:
Green = Recording
Amber = Paused
Clear / Off = Not Recording
Red = Error
The Podium light should be clear before commencing a recording. Once the recording has started the light will turn green. If the podium light indicates red, this means there is an error or fault with the recording, open and check the YuJa Software Window to see if the software is recording and restart if necessary.
The podium light can be used to pause and or stop the recording. Simply press down on the light until it turns to amber (no more than 1 seconds, or one press) to pause or unpause, or press and hold until it turns clear (usually around 5 seconds) to stop the recording.
