The Learning Platform Suite (LPS) is the collection of technology services that are focused on enhancing and supporting learning, teaching and assessment. Put another way, it is the Suite of digital Platforms to support Learning. At the core of the LPS lies the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), currently Blackboard, the platform through which most digital learning and teaching takes place.
The LPS is developed and maintained by LTE’s Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Team.
Virtual Learning Environment
Platform: Blackboard Learn
The main learning platform for all students. Provides core learning information for every module, and access to tools designed to enhance the student’s learning experience.
EPortfolio
Platform: PebblePad
A personal digital learning space in which to gather evidence of learning and provide reflective opportunity.
Digital Learning Capture
Platform: ReCap
A service that will allow lectures sto be recorded and provide staff and students the opportunity to capture additional learning and teaching opportunities.
Assessment Submission, Authenticity, Marking and Feedback
Platform: Turnitin
The platform through which most electronic assessment work is submitted that enables students to improve their academic writing skills, and allows staff to confirm that submitted items are the authentic work of the student. It is also the platform through which marks and feedback for formal, summative assessment is provided back to students.
Virtual Classroom
Platform: Blackboard Collaborate
An online meeting space through which classes can be run in real-time, allowing participants to present, communicate and interact.
Computer Based Testing
Platform: Blackboard Learn / Respondus Lockdown Browser
The platform through which formative and summative online testing can take place.
Classroom Response Systems
Platform: Mentimeter, Padlet
Provides the opportunity for students to provide opinion in class through electronic polling.
On-Demand TV and Radio
Platform: Box of Broadcasts (BoB)
Provides staff and students the opportunity to record programmes from free-to-air channels for educational purposes.
