How Similarity Checking works in Turnitin
Turnitin is a text-matching service which compares student submitted work to text in a large
repository of sources comprising web pages (live and archived), many tens of thousands of
journals and publications and submitted student papers across the UK.
Turnitin produces a ‘Similarity Report’ highlighting text matched to other sources. The
overall percentage of the students’ text which can be found in these other sources is shown
as an overall percentage or ‘Similarity Index’.
