Embedding ReCap Media in a Module

As well as being available through ‘Channels’, content added to ReCap can also be embedded within Blackboard modules/courses using the ReCap Media Chooser. This can be achieved in two ways, to provide flexibility with other content you wish to add alongside it.

The following guidance is for embedding ReCap media to an Ultra Blackboard. If you require assistance to embed media to an Original Blackboard please come to a Lunchtime Surgery or contact your Digital Academic Developer.

Before you start

When you embed media into a Blackboard module it will by default ask users to authenticate / login. Users will see a red box and a blue button to Authenticate. Once they click this it will reload and give them access to the media. Should you wish, you can override this feature by doing the following:

  1. In ReCap, hover your mouse over the thumbnail of your video and select More…
  2. Click on the Links option
  3. Enable the Enable Auto Single-Sign-On for Embedded and Direct Linked Media option
  4. Click the Save Links button

Method 1: Build Content > ReCap Media Chooser

This method allows you to quickly add just the media to a content area, without any supporting text or documents.
1. navigate to the section of the module where you would like to embed media and select the purple + plus sign.
2. from the drop-down menu select Content Market
3. from the Institution Tools page select ReCap Media Chooser
4. the ReCap Media Chooser Library will open (fig.1):

Choose Media – content you already own in ReCap
Upload Media – add a new video/audio file from your device to ReCap
Record Content – create a new recording, with option to include your screen, video/camera and audio/microphone

3. Select the media item(s) that you wish to embed by clicking on them – a dark blue frame will appear around those that have been selected
4. Click Insert Content at the bottom right to confirm your choice
5. The media will appear as a rocket on your Blackboard:

Selecting the Title will open the media and will now be available to view for those with access to the Blackboard module.

Method 2: Create > Document

This method allows you to add media to a document that you may also want to add additional text or content to.
1. navigate to the section of the module where you would like to add the content, select Create > Document
2. give your document a Name
3. select to keep it hidden or make it visible to students
4. from the options available select Add Content
5. in the Text field add any text, images, documents etc to your content as normal
6. in the place in your text/content where you want your media to appear, select the plus symbol (+) and from the drop-down option select Content Market and then ReCap Media Chooser
