It will be trialled throughout 2023 and is another step to Stockholm\u2019s emission-free ferries by 2025 goal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eurasian beavers will be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/news\/eurasian-beavers-granted-legal-protection-in-england\/\">legally protected animal<\/a> in the UK from the 1<sup>st<\/sup> of October<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2022\/jul\/22\/wild-tiger-numbers-40-higher-than-thought-says-conservation-group\">40% more tigers in the world<\/a> than in 2015<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/smart-news\/us-will-plant-1-billion-trees-to-combat-climate-change-180980485\/\">plant 1 billion trees<\/a> in the next decade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sydney, Australia, now runs on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/green\/2020\/07\/01\/city-of-sydney-now-runs-on-100-renewable-energy\">100% renewable energy<\/a>, using locally sourced clean energy from wind and solar farms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/669\/2022\/09\/3-1024x512.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/669\/2022\/09\/3-1024x512.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/669\/2022\/09\/3-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/669\/2022\/09\/3-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/669\/2022\/09\/3-1536x768.png 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/669\/2022\/09\/3.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">August<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>University of Illinois researchers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2022\/08\/220818141733.htm\">bioengineered the efficiency of photosynthesis<\/a> to make greater yields without losing quality in crops<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemists have developed a way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2022\/08\/220818163721.htm\">destroy the \u201cforever chemicals\u201d<\/a> that was recently discovered in global rainfall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The U.S. is set to pass a bill promising nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2022\/aug\/05\/us-climate-bill-slash-emissions-analysis-biden\">$370 billion in climate investments<\/a>, making the first significant step for the country in fighting the climate crisis and bringing them much closer to Biden\u2019s goal of cutting emissions in half by 2030<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-lincolnshire-62605589\">plant 6,000 trees<\/a> in Lincoln, UK, are currently under consideration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Announced in August, New York is to have the <a href=\"https:\/\/inhabitat.com\/new-york-to-have-largest-composting-program-in-the-us\/\">largest composting program<\/a> in the U.S.; it will start in October<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Australia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/great-barrier-reef-massive-comeback\">Great Barrier Reef is making a comeback<\/a>! It is following the lead of other supermarkets like M&amp;S and Tesco<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.happy-headlines.com\/blog-posts\/use-reforestation-plans-1-billion-trees-planted\">1 billion trees will be planted<\/a> in the U.S.A. as part of reforestation plans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Billionaire has donated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/09\/14\/climate\/patagonia-climate-philanthropy-chouinard.html\">98% of his shares<\/a> in his company to a not-for-profit that is dedicated to preserving nature and battling the environmental crisis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Popular cryptocurrency, Ethereum has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/tech\/ethereum-merge-crypto-energy-environment-b2167637.html\">slashed 99.95% of its energy use<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>California is covering <a href=\"https:\/\/escholarship.org\/uc\/item\/8cj5j07p\">8,500ft of canal with solar panels<\/a>, producing energy and stopping water from evaporating<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>See? As promised, lots of good things happening in the world right now! It\u2019s not all doom and gloom. But, just in case you don\u2019t believe me (or my lovingly curated headlines) \u2013 this is going to be a monthly event.
