{"id":13954,"date":"2021-08-03T11:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-08-03T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/?p=13954"},"modified":"2021-10-28T16:17:21","modified_gmt":"2021-10-28T15:17:21","slug":"the-3-rs-2-reusing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/the-3-rs-2-reusing\/","title":{"rendered":"The 3 Rs &#8211; 2 Reusing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In the second of a three part series, we will be looking at the 2nd R, <strong><em>Reusing. <\/em><\/strong>Reusing items or \u2018upcycling\u2019 is a fantastic way of breathing new life into things you may have laying around the house, and if you&#8217;re looking for ways to make the most of your money while you&#8217;re a student, upcycling can help you make the most of what you already have!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>We here at the Student Green Office have shared a variety of ways to upcycle things you may otherwise throw away over the years, here are just a few. There&#8217;s probably a ton of seemingly single-use things like this that we buy that we could get more out of with a little innovation!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Transforming T-shirts<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/eHfJ-aCDCVTYyat90ZIxlVKI0UJ6vkbB_Z1y8KMG8U86PUy5xxvNc8HPWIMMZSGT7235Jpvic911-G2-B7iIiaf3fBp04V1xHL6Okr0A6lbMlSCLhyKyzRpMa-VK4B5Vcqrl3M--\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption>Image description: A t-shirt that has been cut into tassels and tied to make a tote bag.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Rewind to 2019, we could meet in groups and host events. This is exactly what SGO Fran did when she hosted a Christmas Crafts workshop at Augustine Hall. One of the crafts that she taught was <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/upcycling-a-t-shirt-into-a-bag\/\">how to upcycle a t-shirt into a tote bag!<\/a> Why not have a go at this yourself? These upcycling crafts varied from <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/sustainability\/sgo-upcycling-ways-to-do-it-and-why\/\">using old lightbulbs to make vases all the way to turning tyres into an outdoor seat<\/a>!
