Help us Light Up The Night to launch CCCU Diamond Jubilee year.

2022 marks 60 years of Canterbury Christ Church University, and a special event on 1 February will launch a year-long programme of celebratory events and activities.

To mark the occasion, all students and staff are invited to ‘Light Up The Night’ by coming together to follow a light trail through Canterbury city centre. Starting at Augustine House, we’ll venture along the city walls, into The Precincts and past Canterbury Cathedral, finishing outside the Verena Holmes Building where there will be a warm welcome, music and mulled wine. (If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact Frances Dawson frances.dawson@canterbury.ac.uk.)

Please note: We have made some changes to the original planned event to adhere to current Covid restrictions. This includes making this an entirely outdoor event.

Take part as an individual or in a group

You can join in on your own, or with friends. For instance you might want to use the opportunity to get together with your society, sports club or other students and staff from your course.

To help manage numbers, we ask that you register if you’re planning to take part. You can either do so as an individual, or if you’re coming as a group you can register up to 10 people in one go. (If there will be more than 10 of you, just email artsandculture@canterbury.ac.uk with your group size.)

Please note, if you don’t already have an account with CCCU Arts And Culture, you’ll need to create one before you can register, but it won’t take you more than a minute.

Everyone who takes part is encouraged to festoon themselves with lights, carry lanterns and torches – the brighter the better! There will be prizes for the best-decorated.

Students and staff from Medway and Salomons are welcome to travel to Canterbury and take part, plus there’ll be an opportunity for you to mark the Diamond Jubilee on your own campus later in the year.

And if you can’t help attend the Light Up The Night event itself but still want to contribute, artist Ruby Addison will be hosting lantern-making workshops in the Daphne Oram building on the dates below. Click here to book your place.
