What do the Student Life and Guidance (SLG) Team do?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SLG team can meet with you face-to-face and online if you are experiencing any issues you would like to discuss. The team may be able to assist you with your issue or can signpost you to other services if necessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet the Team<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Academic Lead for Student Support & Students Raising Concerns \u2013 Becky Prince<\/strong><\/strong> (she\/her)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Becky is originating the role of Academic Lead for Student Support & Students Raising Concerns, where she will be supporting students throughout their medical school journey in both their development and wellbeing. Becky will also support clear and approachable routes for raising concerns and help ensure students feel able to use them when needed. Becky is looking forward to getting to know you and helping you navigate your time at KMMS, as you grow into the doctor you want to become. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Becky is originally from Lancashire but has gradually migrated further south since starting university. She is a GP in West Kent and has worked at the same practice since 2010. Alongside this, she has taken on leadership roles including the Clinical Lead for Diabetes for NHS Kent and Medway, and for several years also worked as a GP with an enhanced role in mental health. Becky has always enjoyed teaching and working with a range of healthcare professionals, and values the fact that learning is never one-way\u2014the people around you bring perspectives that challenge your thinking and help you keep improving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s one fact about you from your uni days?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I loved my time at university, although I do sometimes wish\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0had a bit more confidence in myself back then\u2014particularly when it came to my studies. I\u00a0probably spent\u00a0more time than I should have in the theatre\u2014and not the surgical kind, including performing a two-person musical at the Edinburgh Fringe between my third and fourth year, which was an amazing experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s one piece of advice you want to give to students?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Believe in yourself – even more than you do right now.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0no single mould for a good doctor\u2014what matters is developing your own strengths. Medicine is a profession where you can build a career that reflects who you are\u2014your interests and your personality. Try not to compare yourself too much to others; focus on becoming the kind of doctor you want to be.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you were to go back and study again now, what subject would you choose?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019d\u00a0still choose medicine\u2014without hesitation, even on the more challenging days. But\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0love the\u00a0option\u00a0to weave in something creative, like drama or writing. Having that balance alongside medicine has always been valuable for me.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
