What do the Student Life and Wellbeing (SLW) Team do? 

The SLW team can meet with you face-to-face and online if you are experiencing any issues you would like to discuss. The team may be able to assist you with your issue or can signpost you to other services if necessary. 

Meet the Team 

Student Life and Wellbeing Manager – Cassie Duce (she/her) 

Cassie’s role in the SLW team includes managing team activities on a day-to-day basis, as well as having an overview of student cases. Cassie has over a decade’s worth of experience working in Higher Education, having worked at the Kent Union Advice Service before coming to KMMS to support students in their journey to becoming a doctor. Cassie has a degree in Professional Development by Work-Related Learning/Fine and Applied Arts and an NVQ in Advice and Guidance. In her spare time Cassie enjoys walking her two dogs with her family, art classes and listening to audiobooks. 

What’s one fact about you from your uni days? 

I went to university as a mature student after completing an Access to Higher Education course. My uni days were certainly a busy period of my life since I had two young sons to care for and a part-time job alongside my studies, but I look back at the time fondly. I met some great people, students and staff, who supported me through the tough times. And I received a prize for my artwork at my graduation which was really nice 😊  

What’s one piece of advice you want to give to students? 

I have been thinking about this a lot recently as my eldest son is going to university this year! The best advice piece of advice I would give is to reach out for help if you have any concerns (big or small). The universities have lots of services that can provide support.  

If you were to go back and study again now, what subject would you choose? 

Microbiology. I sort of think it would be good to be able identify diseases and stuff by looking at tissue really close up.
