Richy Carey is a sound artist and composer. Broadly speaking, his work looks at the way we listen to film, thinking about what the sound of an object or material is, not the sound it makes. He’s currently doing AHRC funded PhD research into the relationship between materiality, language and film sound at Glasgow University.
Charles Williams will present at our third work in progress session on 5th December at 5-6pm, in MDg01.
Dr. Phaedra Shanbaum (lecturer, Digital Arts and Media Education, UCL Knowledge Lab, Institute of Education, UCL) spoke to us about her research.
Installation work, 2nd September – 5th November 2017, open 10am-5pm daily
Wednesday 1st November the School of Media Art and Design will be hosting a visit from Professor Stephen Partridge, who was a member of Sub-panel 34 (Art and Design) in the last REF. Steve is currently Professor of Media Art and Associate Dean of Research (Art & Design) at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee: https://www.dundee.ac.uk/djcad/staff/stephenpartridge/
As part of his visit Steve will be holding an open meeting/Q&A, to which all colleagues in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities are warmly invited. The session should provide a good opportunity to discuss preparations for the next REF with someone who has first hand experience of the REF process, and who has experience of assessing practice-based research submissions. Thus I hope the event will be of particular interest to practice researchers in the Faculty.
The session will run 1.30-2.30pm Wednesday 1 November 2017 in room Pf06.
