{"id":8153,"date":"2021-10-06T14:50:05","date_gmt":"2021-10-06T13:50:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/politics\/?p=8153"},"modified":"2021-10-06T14:50:09","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T13:50:09","slug":"teaching-students-to-influence-policy-and-engage-with-stakeholders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/politics\/2021\/10\/06\/teaching-students-to-influence-policy-and-engage-with-stakeholders\/","title":{"rendered":"Teaching students to influence policy and engage with stakeholders"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dr Susan Kenyon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/study-here\/courses\/politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Politics<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/study-here\/courses\/international-relations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Relations<\/a>&nbsp;at&nbsp;Canterbury Christ Church University&nbsp;(CCCU), we think carefully about the real-world skills that we want&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/learning-and-teaching-enhancement\/strategies\/graduate-attributes.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our students<\/a>&nbsp;to graduate with.&nbsp; With an eye on our&nbsp;students\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/our-students\/graduating-students\/your-next-steps\/getting-a-graduate-job\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">future employment<\/a>,&nbsp;we are&nbsp;working to&nbsp;embed the&nbsp;professional&nbsp;skills and mindset needed to be successful in \u2018doing\u2019 politics and influencing&nbsp;others, to increase the impact and usefulness of&nbsp;the knowledge that they gain during their studies.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/politics\/2021\/09\/20\/top-20-for-politics-and-ir-in-the-guardian-league-table\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Recent league tables<\/a>&nbsp;suggest&nbsp;that our students not only enjoy, but benefit from, this approach.&nbsp;&nbsp;We are thrilled that our students have voted us second in the UK for student satisfaction!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it\u2019s not only our students who benefit.&nbsp;
