{"id":2415,"date":"2017-04-12T17:20:05","date_gmt":"2017-04-12T16:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.wordpress.com\/?p=2415"},"modified":"2018-09-10T14:20:59","modified_gmt":"2018-09-10T13:20:59","slug":"tate-exchange-fairground-diaries-tuesday-and-wednesday-11-12-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/politics\/2017\/04\/12\/tate-exchange-fairground-diaries-tuesday-and-wednesday-11-12-april\/","title":{"rendered":"TATE Exchange: Fairground Diaries &#8211; Tuesday and Wednesday (11 &amp; 12 April)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2278 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/11\/david-bates.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"118\" \/><\/em>The Politics and International Relations programme at Canterbury Christ Church University has collaborated with local organisations and schoolchildren to curate and present a live art intervention held at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/news-centre\/press-releases\/2017\/university-project-exploring-class-and-marginalisation-at-tate-modern.aspx\">Tate Modern: &#8220;Waste Not, Want Not&#8221;<\/a>.\u00a0Curated as part of the Tate Exchange programme, the intervention will be live from Wednesday 12 April\u00a0until Saturday 15 April 2017. Dr David Bates, director of Politics &amp; IR, reports from the scene of the &#8216;Fairground&#8217;:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>&#8220;We finished installing \u2018Waste Not Want Not\u2019 into floor 5 of the Switch House, at Tate Modern at 6pm on Tuesday. We got back to Canterbury at 9pm, then back to London for a 10am start.<\/em><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>When the doors opened, the people started to flood in. As the saying goes \u2018build it and they will come\u2019!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>All the work in our fairground looks fantastic.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Robert \u2013 a talented Slovakian student from Astor College in Dover &#8211; has produced a work called \u2018The Booth\u2019. Visitors to the exchange seem most curious to see what is inside!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Reece also from Astor college has completed his \u2018House of Horrors\u2019. For some reason, members of the public are using this to take \u2018selfies\u2019. I have no idea why!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2416\" src=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/04\/dictators.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"400\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>The work by Valley\u2019s Kids \u2013 all the way from the Rhonda Valley in Wales \u2013 is wonderful. (See their \u2018Merry-go-round of Arts and Ideas\u2019.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2417\" src=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/04\/tate-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"400\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Our colleagues from People United are enjoying lots of success with their work \u2018For Me For You\u2019, which explores the idea of reciprocal altruism.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2418\" src=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/04\/tate-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"400\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>And the work of the artist Holly McKenzie encourages you to \u2018Smash the Patriarchy\u2019!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Finally, we must note that Susannah Campbell and Lewis Bloodworth, two of our own Politics and international Relations students from CCCU, were part of the live art piece \u2018Test Your Mental Strength\u2019, a two hour discussion of concerns of a theoretical nature.
