The party conferences have come and gone, and local politicians are starting to gear up for the next General Election.\u00a0 In Canterbury a first public encounter between the parties took place on Friday 18th October at Canterbury Christ Church University.<\/p>\n

The organisers asked people to submit questions in advance, and these were put to the representatives of the parties in a ‘Question Time’-style debate.\u00a0 Members of the audience were also be able to tweet supplementary questions during the course of the event under the hastag #MPM181013.<\/p>\n

The debate was organised by the \u2018Making Politics Matter\u2019 programme at the University in conjunction with Canterbury and District Inter-Faith Action and the Ethnic Minorities Independent Council.\u00a0\u00a0 Programme Director Dr David Bates said: \u201cThe parties need to be held accountable for the promises they made at the last election as they start making a new round of promises for the next.\u201d<\/p>\n

The members of the panel were Julian Brazier MP (Conservative), Geoff Meaden (Green Party), Ben Green (Labour and current Canterbury politics student), James Flanagan (Liberal Democrat), and Anne Belsey (Money Reform Party).\"Image\"<\/a><\/p>\n
