Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>James Flanagan Liberal Democrat general election candidate for Canterbury and Whitstable gave a lecture with a question and answer session in the second of our &#8216;Meet the Candidates&#8217;\u00a0sessions for the 2015 election on Friday 23rd of January.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1160\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1160\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/01\/david-bates-and-james-flanagan.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1160\" src=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/01\/david-bates-and-james-flanagan.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"David Bates and James Flanagan\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1160\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">David Bates and James Flanagan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There was plentiful attendance from members of the local community who pressed James strongly on his main priorities for\u00a0the constituency; his opinion on a range of local issues; and his ability to remain independent and represent Canterbury and Whitstable in Westminster. \u00a0This lively exchange of views was a perfect example of democracy in action with citizens &#8211; both ordinary voters and politics students &#8211; interacting with James. \u00a0All came away with a much clearer idea of the candidate and what he would do if elected in May.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1161\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1161\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/01\/members-of-community-at-james-flanagan.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1161\" src=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/01\/members-of-community-at-james-flanagan.jpg?w=300\" alt=\" \" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1161\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members of the community involved in the q and a with James.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Future events in the &#8216;Meet the Candidates&#8217;
