and IR Programme Participates in Innovative Live WebTV Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the Programme&#8217;s relationship with the civil society organisation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalnet21.org\/\">GlobalNet21<\/a>, a live WebTV event was run on Wednesday 10th of December. \u00a0The topic was food scarcity and it was further organised with the assistance of the British Council.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1129\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1129\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/12\/photo-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1129 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/12\/photo-1.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"photo 1\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1129\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The live stream with PowerPoint Slides, video from other participants and textbox of questions<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Our resident expert on GMO foods and global public policy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/social-and-applied-sciences\/psychology-politics-and-sociology\/Staff\/Profile.aspx?staff=c137dcdb4e0d19d5\">Dr. Sarah Lieberman <\/a>gave a 20 minute lecture on Food Scarcity that was broadcast live over the internet via the GlobalNet21 website. \u00a0Individuals who logged on to the website were then able to ask questions to Dr. Lieberman via a text box on the site. \u00a0Additionally with the aid of microphones our students who had\u00a0studied this topic in depth for two weeks added their own questions and arguments which were audible and visible to the WebTV programme.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1130\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1130\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/12\/photo-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1130 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/12\/photo-2.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"photo 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our students making a point via a microphone over the live stream<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a first attempt at a live WebTV programme it was a qualified success. \u00a0There were over 100 online participants from across the globe who experienced the expertise of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students. \u00a0The next live WebTV programme will take place on January 15th with Peter Hain MP on the topic of UK constitutional reform. \u00a0Our students will generate online video content to contextualise the issue while our expert on British politics Dr. Mark Bennister will provide expert analysis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/canterburypolitics.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/12\/webinar-slides-for-fs.pptx\">Webinar slides for
