Authentic and Inauthentic Places: Imitating Art and Life
Speaker: Dr Jane Lovell, CCCU
Drawing from a book on authenticity and place, this seminar will discuss the extent to which places included heritage sites, seaside, wilderness and rural environments considered authentic or inauthentic? How do ideas of the authentic affect imagined and creative spaces?
Dr Jane Lovell is a Programme Director for Events Management and Events Planning at Canterbury Christ Church University, Senior Lecturer in Events and Tourism and a Co-Director of CoAST (Cultural Offers at Seaside Resorts). She has a strong background in arts development including 10 years at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, managing initiatives such as the COMET (Customer Oriented Management and Event Ticketing) project, designed to underpin fundraising and audience development for the 105M development project. Jane has organised two successful conferences combining the expertise of the creative industries and academic research, investigating and evidencing the value of culture. Her research interests include a PhD thesis on heritage experiences in 15 English historic cities, including Bath and Oxford.
