For example, future festivals and networking events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They tell you apps to access like <em>The BFI Player<\/em> where you can play video content that\u2019s not on air. For free, if you\u2019re a student.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You also get discounts like the <em>under 25 scheme<\/em>. You pay \u00a34-6 to attend a screening at the Southbank Cinema.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BFI Library comes for free, which has books by industry professionals. Industry insights and unseen releases.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s nice is that the ethos is very casual and laid back, giving a welcoming impression almost like they remember what it\u2019s like to be a student and it\u2019s a part of them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They offer a lot of emails of which I\u2019ve saved, just to reach out and keep as a connection which is always useful. I\u2019ve reached out to some and they have recommended other networking events.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if it\u2019s just once, I recommend going to these events. You get a lot out of it and they offer a free screening at the end. Which I think is always a lot of fun, because it\u2019s always something off-air you haven\u2019t seen before.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For anyone that could be interested in future events; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/whatson.bfi.org.uk\/Online\/default.asp?BOparam::WScontent::loadArticle::permalink=filmsindex&amp;BOparam::WScontent::loadArticle::context_id=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">All screenings and events | BFI Southbank | BFI Southbank<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Is BFI Player Like?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Stream hand-picked movies | BFI Player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2AVisfWtgTs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve used <em>BFI Player<\/em> for around a week, and I really like it because it has content that isn\u2019t on other streaming platforms. Festival features, content that\u2019s no longer on-air and a lot more.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s quite similar to the way <em>Amazon Prime <\/em>operates. You can add films or series to a watchlist.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are so many categories. <em>Family films, Crime, Coming Of Age, The Biopic, Forgotten Features<\/em> etc. The app is very simple to use where you can browse through all the categories at your own pace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a lot you can watch off-air for free. For example, I watched <em>Beauty And The Beast (1978)<\/em>. And I had a lot of fun with it!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video and sound quality is just like watching on any other streaming platform. Very high quality for both sound and video. You also have an option of subtitles which I took. No buffering issues, just a simple good watch!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And just like with other platforms, there are summaries of the film underneath, ratings and a list of the featured actors.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2025\/12\/image-3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"339\" height=\"738\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2025\/12\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-76334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2025\/12\/image-3.png 339w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2025\/12\/image-3-138x300.png 138w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 339px) 100vw, 339px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>There are some rentals you have to pay for. For example, films that have been in BFI Film Festivals like <em>BFI Flare<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only problem I\u2019ve encountered is that it doesn\u2019t save your progress when you go off the app, so you should make a note where you\u2019ve ended up.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, I strongly recommend this app, because it\u2019s free and there\u2019s a lot of high quality content that\u2019s not mainstream that can be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If anyone is interested; <a href=\"https:\/\/player.bfi.org.uk\/academic\/sign-up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Sign up | BFI Player<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 You have to make an account before you download the app (I got mine on the app store).
