Black History Month<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In October, we celebrated and supported Black History Month \u2014 a time to share, reflect on, and honour the impact of Black heritage and culture. It\u2019s a vital opportunity to recognise that people of African and Caribbean backgrounds have been a fundamental part of British history for centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each year, Black History Month is guided by a theme. This year\u2019s theme is \u201cStanding Firm in Power and Pride\u201d<\/strong> \u2014 a powerful tribute to the resilience, strength, and unwavering commitment to progress that defines the Black community across the globe. It highlights the profound contributions of Black leaders, activists, and pioneers who have shaped history, while also looking ahead to a future of continued empowerment, unity, and growth.<\/em> (Black History Month, 2025)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Black History Month 365<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Throughout October, the Library showcased printed resources and books in support of Black History Month. But did you know that CCCU students also have access to a wide range of online resources, including streaming services? These platforms allow you to watch films, documentaries, and programmes for free \u2014 all accessible via LibrarySearch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve put together a quick tour of the streaming services available, helping you connect with even more Black History resources \u2014 not just in October, but all year round. That\u2019s 365 days <\/strong>of access to content that celebrates Black history and culture.<\/p>\n\n\n

This aligns with the University\u2019s pledge to take a 365-day approach to Black History<\/strong>. While we recognise the importance of dedicating a month to celebration and reflection, one month simply isn\u2019t enough. You can learn more about the University\u2019s commitment to this year-round approach on the CCCU website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BFI Player<\/h3>\n\n\n

By registering for your account through our institutional subscription, you will gain access to a free subscription as well as exclusive collections such as \u2018Kermode introduces\u2019<\/a> and much more!   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accessing BFI Player<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If you’re visiting BFI Player for the first time, you’ll need to register<\/strong> before you can access the subscription. To do this, head to LibrarySearch<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 make sure you’re logged in (you’ll find the login option at the top right of the screen).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you’re in, go to \u2018Find databases A\u2013Z<\/strong>\u2019 on the left-hand side and select \u2018B<\/strong>\u2019 for BFI Player. Instead of clicking straight into the resource, choose the \u2018Register here\u2019<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n\n\n

Once you’ve registered, you won\u2019t need to do it again until the next academic year. After that, you can go straight to BFI Player via LibrarySearch whenever you need it. If you\u2019re unsure about any part of the process, there\u2019s an online guide right next to the register button to help you out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Returning users to BFI Player <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If you already had registered last academic year you will need to resubscribe again this academic year. The short video<\/a> below is for those who have a BFI Player account from last year. It explains the simple steps to resubscribe so that you can start watching films again!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
