It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, organisations, and others around the world with the opportunity to recognise the many skills and talents of neurodivergent individuals, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.neurodiversityweek.com\" title=\"\"><strong><em>Neurodiversity Week<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2025 will take place during March 17th&nbsp;&#8211; 23rd. You will find displays around campus, and at Augustine House library.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember you can get support at CCCU! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For students: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/our-students\/ug-current\/support-services\/disability-and-mental-health\" title=\"Disability and mental health at CCCU\">https:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/our-students\/ug-current\/support-services\/disability-and-mental-health<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For staff: <a href=\"https:\/\/cccu.canterbury.ac.uk\/hr-and-od\/organisational-and-people-development\/organisational-and-people-development.aspx\" title=\"Inclusion, Development and Wellbeing\">https:\/\/cccu.canterbury.ac.uk\/hr-and-od\/organisational-and-people-development\/organisational-and-people-development.aspx<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebraincharity.org.uk\/what-is-neurodiversity\/\"><strong>Neurodiversity<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;is the concept that brain differences are natural variations \u2013 not deficits, disorders or impairments (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebraincharity.org.uk\/\" title=\"\"><strong>The Brain Charity<\/strong><\/a>). It is estimated that up to 20% of the population may have some form of neurodivergent condition, such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, Tourette&#8217;s, or Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). Often, people who experience one of these conditions, may likely experience others too, including anxiety disorders, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/psychiatry-uk.com\/what-is-neurodiversity-and-whats-it-got-to-do-with-ocd\/\" title=\"\"><strong>OCD<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; this is due to the high probability of <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC10971064\/\" title=\"\"><strong>comorbidities<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not two individuals are the same, and this also applies to neurodiversity, meaning that everyone will have different profiles, with a unique pattern of strengths and challenges. Neurodivergent people bring so much to the table with their unique perspectives and abilities, and this is slowly starting to get the recognition it deserves. Neurodivergent conditions are not diseases to be cured &#8211; some people struggle more than others in certain areas, or at different times in their lives, and require support -, but this special week of celebration and awareness, tries to shift the focus to the strengths and all the good things neurodiversity can offer too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognising and nurturing neurodiversity in society, can bring so many different benefits. Not just for the wellbeing of individuals, but also for the sake of better working teams and workforces.
