Once funding has been awarded, researchers must follow their funder\u2019s research data policies. Links to the UKRI funders\u2019 policies can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/manage-your-award\/publishing-your-research-findings\/making-your-research-data-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UKRI website<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Activity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The activity of research data management includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deciding where to store your data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being aware of, and adhering to any legal or ethical issues relating to the data (e.g. compliance with <a href=\"https:\/\/ico.org.uk\/for-organisations\/uk-gdpr-guidance-and-resources\/\" title=\"\">GDPR<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/ico.org.uk\/for-organisations\/foi\/what-is-the-foi-act-and-are-we-covered\/\" title=\"\"> Freedrom of Information <\/a>requests<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deciding how long to store the data for (this may be dependent on legal or ethical requirements)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deciding if\/when data should be deleted\/destroyed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You may wish to contact <a href=\"https:\/\/cccu.canterbury.ac.uk\/governance-and-legal-services\/governance-and-legal-services.aspx\" title=\"\">Governance and Legal Services <\/a>and\/or <a href=\"https:\/\/cccu.canterbury.ac.uk\/information-technology\/information-technology.aspx\" title=\"\">IT<\/a> to ensure you are complying with CCCU and other policies at this and all stages of the RDM process, and for help with where and how to store your data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2024\/05\/c-m-X_j3b4rqnlk-unsplash.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2024\/05\/c-m-X_j3b4rqnlk-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-64798\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2024\/05\/c-m-X_j3b4rqnlk-unsplash.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2024\/05\/c-m-X_j3b4rqnlk-unsplash-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo by <a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/@ubahnverleih?utm_content=creditCopyText&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=unsplash\">C M<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/photos\/books-in-shelves-in-room-X_j3b4rqnlk?utm_content=creditCopyText&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=unsplash\">Unsplash<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dissemination and preservation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Repository<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Data can be stored and preserved, as well as disseminated, via deposit in the <a href=\"http:\/\/repository.canterbury.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CCCU Research Space Repository<\/a>. Researchers should choose to deposit their data in another open online repository if their funder requires a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doi.org\/\" title=\"\">digital object identifier<\/a> (DOI), as these cannot currently be generated by Research Space.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the data is deposited in a repository, researchers can share the link to their data as appropriate.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Embargoes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Publishers or funders may require data to be embargoed. In addition, researchers may wish to embargo their data for other reasons, such as it being commercially sensitive. If researchers choose to deposit their data in Research Space, they must inform library staff of any required embargoes by emailing <a href=\"mailto:repository@canterbury.ac.uk\" title=\"\">repository@canterbury.ac.uk&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Access and sharing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>CCCU supports the principles and objectives of open research (including open science). Where possible it will make all forms of output from its research accessible and freely available in ways that allow them to be used and re-used for the benefit of the wider society &#8211; please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/asset-library\/open-access-policy-2023.pdf\" title=\"\">CCCU Open Access Policy<\/a>. To this end, it is important that any underlying data referred to should also be available on the same basis, where appropriate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers should be prepared to share their data from the start of their projects and follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.go-fair.org\/fair-principles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FAIR data principles<\/a>. They should make their data open by sharing it on the Research Space Repository, or other open repositories, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/zenodo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zenodo<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/figshare.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Figshare<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Researchers should ensure they are following funders\u2019 policies regarding open data.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any queries about storing your data in the repository or open data, please contact <a href=\"mailto:library.researchsupport@canterbury.ac.uk\">library.researchsupport@canterbury.ac.uk<\/a>.
