Here at Augustine House, we are keen to showcase and share some of the wonderful resources that we have. Read on to find out how we are digitising and supporting others to use our collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#a31600\">Kent Maps Online<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The university&#8217;s digital humanities project <a href=\"https:\/\/kent-maps.online\/\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Kent Maps Online<\/span><\/a> is a visual feast of articles, images and maps about Kent&#8217;s history and heritage.  Kent has a rich history and has provided inspiration for a number of writers and artists including <a href=\"https:\/\/kent-maps.online\/dickens\/\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Charles Dickens<\/span>,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/kent-maps.online\/nesbit\/index\/\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">E.Nesbit,<\/span><\/a><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"> <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kent-maps.online\/nesbit\/index\/\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"> <\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/kent-maps.online\/austen\/index\/\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Jane Austen<\/span><\/a> and<span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"> <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kent-maps.online\/20c\/20c-cohen-biography\/\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Alfred Cohen<\/span><\/a><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">.<\/span> The site is the result of a collaboration between&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/labs.jstor.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">JSTOR Labs<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;and a team led by Carolyn Oulton, Professor of Victorian Literature in the School of Humanities and Educational Studies.   The site includes interactive visualizations that are generated from annotations inserted in the text by the essay authors. The visualizations include interactive maps with feature overlays that provide context for associated paragraphs in the essay.&nbsp; The Library is proud to have contributed unique images to this project from its archives and special collections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2021\/11\/kentmapsbanner.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2021\/11\/kentmapsbanner-1024x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38873\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2021\/11\/kentmapsbanner-1024x338.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2021\/11\/kentmapsbanner-300x99.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2021\/11\/kentmapsbanner-768x254.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2021\/11\/kentmapsbanner-1536x507.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/638\/2021\/11\/kentmapsbanner.jpg 1819w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The passport of <a href=\"https:\/\/kent-maps.online\/19c\/19c-grand-biography\/\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Sarah Grand<\/span><\/a>, feminist campaigner, writer and proponent of sex education for girls is held in the library archives as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canterbury.ac.uk\/arts-and-humanities\/school-of-humanities\/research\/victorian-women-writers\/icvww-research-projects-and-events\/sarah-grand-collection.aspx\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Sarah Grand collection<\/span><\/a>.  Professor Carolyn Oulton was inspired to write an article on Sarah  Grand who lived in Tunbridge Wells from 1898-1920 for Kent Maps Online and asked for images to illustrate her article. The passport reveals that Grand was 4 foot 4 inches (1.32 metres), had grey eyes, a straight nose and a fair complexion. The book is part of the library&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/library\/welcome-to-the-historical-collection-a-wealth-of-eccentricity\/\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Historical Collection<\/span><\/a> which has some interesting and rare material. We have hundreds of images and slides to sort through and digitize so if you&#8217;d like to help, <a href=\"https:\/\/ccsu.co.uk\/volunteering\/opportunities\/\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">do get in touch<\/span><\/a>.
