COVID-19

You are asked to wear a face covering when inside our libraries. If you are exempt from wearing a face covering for health, age, or equality reasons, you may wish to indicate that you are exempt. You can do this through exemption cards or lanyards available at some of our receptions. See the government guidance for details.

If you are planning to use the library over the winter holiday, we ask that you continue to take a lateral flow test twice a week, even if vaccinated.

For further details please click here.

Return dates

No items will be due for return during the winter break. Any items which would be due between 18 December and 3 January will have their borrowing period automatically extended to the 4 January instead.

Reservations

There will be no courier run between our libraries during the winter break. If you require items that are held at another campus library, we recommend placing reservations on these items by Sunday 12 December, at the latest, for fulfilment before the holiday period.

If you are placing reservations on items that are out on loan please be aware that the due date on some items will already be 4 January due to the winter holiday borrowing changes.

Before you go away

If you are going to be away from campus for the holidays, here are our top tips of what to do before you go away:

  • Return any books you do not need or have been reserved by another user.
  • Return any 24-hour loans, these items are not eligible for renewal.
  • If you have a 24-hour loan or a 7-day loan, check to see if there is a longer 4-week loan available.
  • Check LibrarySearch to see if there is an e-book you could use instead of a print copy while you’re away.
  • The government is asking all students to take a lateral flow test before travelling home. This will help to prevent outbreaks and limit the spread of the virus. Please report your results online to NHS Test & Trace whether positive, negative or void. See the student news for details.

While you are away…

  • Your items will automatically renew unless they are reserved or are on 24-hour loan. You do not need to renew or return any loans, from Saturday 18 December to Monday 3rd January inclusive.
  • If you have returned home and found that one of your items has already been reserved, please contact us for help. Email us on library.canterbury@canterbury.ac.uk or call 01227 922352.
