Stressless Drop-In Events Header

Spring/Summer 2022

For the second time we allowed the student body to vote for what sessions they would be interested in attending as a Stressless activity. This time round we had 11 options available, with also the chance to propose your own ideas. Keep reading to see what was available, and also what sessions you chose.

So what did you vote for?

Options included:

  • FREE hot chocolates
  • Relaxation session
  • Pebble painting
  • Fruit and herbal teas
  • Board game session
  • Outdoor games/activities
  • Study space decoration
  • Badges and Magnets
  • Bubbles
  • Plant pots/Tealight holders
  • Paper crafts

At Christmas we received 300 votes for drop-in sessions, this time round we doubled this figure exactly with 600 votes. It was great to see such a wide interest in the proposed activities, with total votes, in some places, being extremely close. For this reason we have worked our magic and combined several of the sessions into one.

FREE Hot Chocolates or Herbal/Fruity tea

It might be getting warmer but that doesn’t mean Hot Chocolates are off the menu. Join us on the 2nd floor atrium area of Augustine House and treat yourself to a FREE hot chocolate and an assortment of extras (while stocks last). Vegan options will be available. We will also be exploring more sustainable options moving forward thanks to Enterprise and Employability for the donation of mugs.

Maybe you don’t fancy a hot chocolate this time! Well we will also have a range of fruit and herbal teas available for you to choose from on the day.

Taking place on:

Thursday 7th April 2pm – 3pm

Study Space Decoration and other Paper/General Crafts

Unfortunately, AH 2.23 is currently out of bounds, so we will not be able to setup the creatives room for this event. But we don’t want to stop you getting creative.

So from April 4th we will setup a trolley by the Stressless area with our study space decoration folders available for you to get cutting, folding, gluing and creating. If you find someone has beaten you to the model you wanted, don’t worry, let me know and I can get it over to you on jason.shirley@canterbury.ac.uk.

We will also had some folders and resources for other paper craft and general arty ideas such as origami, paper flowers, zentangles and drawing.

Board Games Session

Unfortunately, AH 2.23 is currently out of bounds, so we will not be able to setup the gaming room for this event. But this won’t stop us playing some board games.

All our board games, card games and table top games will be available throughout the exam period in the Stressless Zone. Including all our new games purchased through the Connect fund. So come along anytime (building is open 24/7) and play some games with your friends.

If anyone would like to challenge Jacqui or myself to a game, Staff vs Student, then let us know by emailing jason.shirley@canterbury.ac.uk. Maybe we will give out some sweets and treats to those that beat us, but I’m sure they won’t be necessary 😉.

Outdoor Games/Activities with Bubbles

A bit of fresh air does everyone the world of good; have those cobwebs blown away, and fingers crossed enjoy a bit of sunshine. Join us out behind Augustine House by the grass and picnic benches for a range of fun activities.

We will be pulling together a range of our old and new larger or outdoor based games for you to enjoy including giant jenga, giant connect four, giant noughts & crosses, giant snakes and ladders, twister, tin can alley, hoopla and bean bag toss.

But that’s not all, sports will also be providing us with skipping ropes, hula hoops, ladder golf and corn hole.

Finally, Jacqui will be there with her paddling pool and challenge you to hook the duck, will you win a prize?

Currently being held on the following dates (weather permitting)

Thursday 21st April 2pm – 4pm

&

Friday 6th May 2pm – 4pm

Plant Pots/Tealight Holders/Magnets and Pebble Painting (Fingers crossed badges too)

It wouldn’t be Stressless without one of Jacqui’s arty crafty painting sessions. This time round we have gone crazy and produced a wide range plaster moulds for you to paint and decorate as you wish. Options include tealight holders, pots/plant pots and magnets.

We will also be taking a trip to the seaside and collecting up some stones and pebbles for you to paint. Then you can take them home or maybe place it around CCCU or Canterbury for someone else to find and enjoy.

Finally, there is the possibility of creating your own badge either by hand on or on a computer, go crazy with your design. This will all depend on the badge maker functioning correctly on the day, fingers crossed!

Taking place on;

Thursday 14th April 4pm – 5pm

&

Thursday 28th April 3pm – 4pm
