Cite them Right – 12th edition

Person reading magazines

The fully revised and updated 12th edition of Pears and Shield’s Cite them Right has hit the shelves at Augustine House Library at classmark 025.48 PEA (that’s on the first floor) and Medway’s Drill Hall Library at 808.066 PEA..

If you are not familiar with Cite them Right, it is a super aid to help you with your referencing, with clearly laid out examples.

What does it contain?

In the new edition you’ll find:

1. A new section on collecting evidence to use in your work, which includes advice on things like searching tips, finding credible sources and managing references.

2. A new section on reading, listening and note-taking, which includes advice on things like scanning, skimming and techniques for note-taking.

3. An expanded section on quoting, paraphrasing and summarising, with more examples and some words about reflective writing.

4. Additions to the Harvard section include how to reference books with a corporate author, TikTok and online modes of learning such as Zoom, Teams and Collaborate

5. There are revised examples based on the updated editions of the APA and MLA citation styles.

Why the change?

Students often ask us why referencing manuals are updated and whether they need to buy the new edition. Generally, they change to accommodate new formats. Who knew about Zoom, Teams or Collaborate before March 2020, but I bet you’ve wondered how to cite them!

And in case you are wondering, the online version will update to the 12th edition too, in June. It is also going to have a makeover making it easier to navigate.
