Building works taking place at Salomons Institute library

To enhance the teaching space provision at Lucy Fildes House, building works are scheduled to take place in the Salomons Institute Library starting Monday 1 August for a minimum of six weeks. We expect a degree of disruption and noise disturbance throughout this time, particularly 1 – 14 August.

The Library will be closed on Wednesday 10 August for electrical works, with remote support via email only.

The library will be accessible throughout the remaineded of the works, you can enter the library through the central staircase as usual but the area to the right as you enter will be clearly cordoned off and inaccessible. There will be a reduced number of study spaces and PCs available within the library, but more PCs can be found in the ground floor student hub (SALg05). If not in use, interview rooms (SALf06, SALf07, SALs06 and SALs07) can also be used upon request at the ground floor reception.

Library staff will be on site 10:00 – 16:00 (Monday – Friday). The building remains open its usual operating hours. (See our opening hours). The library desk has been temporarily moved to the far end of the library. Please speak to a member of staff if you need any help. If you find the library too noisy to work in, let us know, and we’ll aid you in finding a quieter study space elsewhere in the building.

The rest of our services and facilities are still the same. There is full access to the library book and journal collections and self-service is available for the borrowing and returning of library items. I-Borrow laptops and printing facilities are available too although the machines have been relocated to new areas in the library to avoid the building works.

We apologise for any inconvenience the building works may cause during this period.
