{"id":1589,"date":"2021-11-11T13:23:26","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T13:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/facultyofeducation\/?p=1589"},"modified":"2022-01-20T14:23:43","modified_gmt":"2022-01-20T14:23:43","slug":"student-success-stories-student-journalist-of-the-year-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/facultyofeducation\/student-success-stories-student-journalist-of-the-year-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Success Stories: Student Journalist of the Year Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Year Student Wins Student Journalist of the Year in 2021<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Third-year Multimedia Journalism student, David Applin, won the IRN &#8216;Student Journalist of the Year&#8217; award, supported by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council and Sky News. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards celebrate the achievements of news and sport student journalists in UK commercial radio in a wide range of categories including news reading, reporting, campaigns and interviews. The nominations were announced by Sky News presenter Anna Jones ahead of a special video ceremony on&nbsp;Thursday 15th July&nbsp;at which the winners and the recipient of the IRN Gold Award were revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judges commended David for his documentary \u2018Inside the Dark Web\u2019, describing the piece as \u201can outstanding piece of journalism that takes the listener on a compelling and sinister journey from the outset\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multimedia Journalism (MMJ) Programme Director, Aletta Harrison, said: \u201cDavid was up against some extremely tough competition, which really does reflect how impressive his piece of work is.
