{"id":771,"date":"2016-10-25T11:05:44","date_gmt":"2016-10-25T11:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/christchurchsportnews.wordpress.com\/?p=771"},"modified":"2017-04-26T10:08:48","modified_gmt":"2017-04-26T09:08:48","slug":"kent-womens-cricket-receive-county-trophies-from-hrh-the-duke-of-edinburgh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/christchurchsport\/kent-womens-cricket-receive-county-trophies-from-hrh-the-duke-of-edinburgh\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent Women&#8217;s Cricket receive County trophy from HRH the Duke of Edinburgh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Women&#8217;s County Championship winners and One-Day Cup winners, Kent Women&#8217;s Cricket team, were the guests of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace today to receive their trophy.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>HRH The Duke of Edinburgh is Patron and \u2018Twelfth Man\u2019 of the Lord\u2019s Taverners &#8211; the UK\u2019s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity and he hosted the Women&#8217;s and Men&#8217;s\u00a0winning counties to present the the Lady Taverners ECB Trophy and the\u00a0Lord\u2019s Taverners ECB Trophy.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Taverners ECB Trophy is the official name of the silverware awarded to the winners of the Women\u2019s County Championship.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is the 43<sup>rd<\/sup> year that the County Champions have enjoyed a special Royal engagement since the trophy was introduced for the first time by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in 1973. As Patron and \u2018Twelfth Man\u2019 he asks the Lord\u2019s Taverners to organise a ceremony which he hosts at Buckingham Palace every year to honour the winners.<\/p>\n<p>Kent women\u2019s captain, Charlotte Edwards said: <em>\u201cIt\u2019s been a brilliant summer with a great group of girls. Suzie Bates has been fantastic and led with bat, ball and in the field. Tash Farrant has bowled well and Alice Davidson-Richards has had a fine season. We\u2019ve used our whole squad this summer; everyone has had a run-out. Charlotte Pape and Megan Belt have performed well again. It\u2019s been a real team effort. We have our international players but everyone\u2019s performed at different points during the season. I love playing with this group because they\u2019re down-to-earth and they love playing for Kent and it shows in our cricket.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Paul Robin, Chief Executive of The Lord\u2019s Taverners, stated<em>: \u201cWe are delighted to once again be organising the men\u2019s and women\u2019s county championship trophy presentations at Buckingham Palace. It\u2019s a great tradition for HRH The Duke of Edinburgh to present the Lord\u2019s Taverners Trophies and a wonderful way to thank the county game which has, once again, been so supportive of the charity last season.
