{"id":4038,"date":"2022-05-31T09:54:49","date_gmt":"2022-05-31T08:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/christchurchsport\/?p=4038"},"modified":"2022-05-31T09:57:36","modified_gmt":"2022-05-31T08:57:36","slug":"sport-scholar-awards-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/christchurchsport\/sport-scholar-awards-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Sport Scholar Awards 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tuesday 24th May saw the return of the University\u2019s Sport Scholar Awards after a two-year hiatus due to the global pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The event aims to celebrate the best of the University\u2019s sporting talent through an awards ceremony, incredible guest speakers and culminating in the presentation of three special prizes. This year\u2019s event was held at the Spitfire Ground St. Lawrence, home of Kent Cricket and featured an excellent speech from Crystal Palace goalkeeper and London solicitor Chloe Morgan on her dual career as a footballer and a lawyer. Vince Mayne, CEO of BUCS (British Universities &amp; Colleges Sport) added a celebration of university sport, and there were some warm words of welcome and inspiration from our own Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rama Thirunamachandran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s big award winners were Sport Scholars Jodie Hobson (Outstanding Contribution), Lucy Relf (Performance Scholar of the Year) and Faye Wills (Elite Scholar of the Year).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/christchurchsport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/526\/2022\/05\/AwardWinnersImage.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4050\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/christchurchsport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/526\/2022\/05\/AwardWinnersImage.jpg 700w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/christchurchsport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/526\/2022\/05\/AwardWinnersImage-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption><em>Award winners; Jodie Hobson (Outstanding Contribution), Lucy Relf (Performance Scholar of the Year) and Faye Wills (Elite Scholar of the Year).<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The evening was compered by Director of Sport &amp; Active Health Paul Carney, who said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s been fantastic to celebrate the successes of our student-athletes again.
