The Covid-19 pandemic, has denied sportspeople across the globe the opportunity to train, compete and celebrate in their successes, and the Christ Church Sport Scholars are no exception. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

This week should have seen Canterbury Christ Church University\u2019s greatest sporting talent celebrate their achievements through the Sport Scholar Awards, an evening designed to reward the accomplishments of the University\u2019s brightest sporting talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our range of sport scholarships are targeted at providing a high level of support to the brightest sporting talent; aiming to develop sporting excellence in almost any sport. The Canterbury Christ Church University Sports Scholarship programme began its journey in 2008, and has seen many successes along the way, past top athletes to have received scholarship support include Olympian Gloria Hooper, GB Hockey\u2019s Grace Balsdon, Chelsea FC Women\u2019s Deanna Cooper and International Bowls player Imogen Jenner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this year\u2019s Scholarship Awards evening currently delayed, allowing for scholar successes to be properly recognised and celebrated effusively at a later date, we have decided to release a series of scholar images taken by the incredibly talented, Kent based photographer Lucy Mohr. Helping to celebrate the fantastic work our Sport Scholars are doing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gloria Hooper.<\/strong> Qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics earlier this year and ran as part of the fastest Italian female 100m quartet of all time at the World Athletics Championships<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Imogen Jenner<\/strong>. Part of the England team to win the BIIBC Ladies U25 International Bowls Series for the third year running and made the front cover of Bowls International Magazine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Nicole Pepper.<\/strong> This Crystal Palace player captained her country in her final year of study as she represented England Universities whilst scoring some key goals for CCCU during her time studying at the University<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Hannah Capey.<\/strong> Winner of the London Region Awards Junior Series 1st<\/sup> Girl earlier this year and a great start to her first year at CCCU<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Dan Smart. <\/strong>Last year\u2019s Elite Scholar of the Year who spearheaded Canterbury Rugby Club\u2019s promotion to National League 1 whilst earning England Counties call ups along the way<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

A huge congratulations to this year\u2019s cohort of Sport Scholars, with a special mention to Physical Education and Physical Activity student Megan Belt, who is currently supporting key worker\u2019s children during lockdown and making physical education videos that children at home can participate in and send back via Google Classroom – developing their technique whilst away from school. Additionally, Primary Education student Imogen Jenner is currently working with the NHS, providing administration support to the Maxillofacial department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
