Standing up when on the phone

TIP: Stand up or be active when you’re on the phone

This week I’ve given myself a new Move More challenge – to stand for every phone call. I mentioned it at the end of my last blog post and I know you’ve all been waiting with baited breath – HERE IT IS!

I definitely found this one more difficult to remember – sometimes I’d forget to stand up entirely and then make myself stand afterwards for a couple of minutes. Now it feels pretty normal to stand up for a phone call and I think it is a really simple tip that someone wouldn’t have to change much to make a part of their working life.

Occasionally I’d find myself willing the phone to ring a bit more so I’d have more to write about in my post! Unfortunately it did not, and there is nothing massively exciting to report back!

However, it did make me want to stand up more. Not just when the phone rings, but standing up to go to the filing cabinet as opposed to scooting along on my wheely chair… It probably looks a little more professional too! Sometimes I found myself standing to talk to customers, which means I can talk to them at eye level as opposed to looking up at them from my desk – small changes that made me feel just that little bit more active at work.

Next week I’m going to try some desk based exercise. If you come to the Sports Centre I’ll be the one at the desk with the sweatbands and leotard!
