On the 23rd April, Christ Church Sport ran an Inclusive Sports Day in the Sports Centre focused on showcasing sport opportunities that people with disabilities may be interested in getting involved with. Local providers of disability sport activities were able to support the event with expert knowledge of how to make a session as inclusive as possible for everybody to enjoy.
Since the appointment of a student Inclusive Sports Ambassador in December 2014, Christ Church Sport has now run three Inclusive Sports Days in recent times in which the following activities have been delivered:
- Archery
- Boccia
- Goalball
- Powerchair Football
- Table Tennis
- Sitting Volleyball
- Walking Football
- Wheelchair Badminton
Christ Church Sports’ new gym refurbishment in December 2015 has also created a much more inclusive fitness environment with the acquisition of a range of equipment that is far more accessible for all users than ever before at the University.
To help support the delivery of the Inclusive Sports Days, the first official Inclusive Sports Committee is currently being established which will feature a number of students and staff from across the institution. The committee will aim to further develop external links with local inclusive activity providers; develop a strategy for communicating with disabled students and staff effectively as well as develop a “How to Guide” of how students and staff can make their sports clubs and activity sessions at Christ Church truly inclusive.
